John Grey is the bastard son of Lord Jonos Grey of Greywater Watch. His mother was a wildling woman, which makes him an outcast in both the North and the South. He joined the Night's Watch in order to escape his past and prove himself worthy of his father's name. However, he soon found that life on the Wall was not as he had expected.

The Night's Watch is a brotherhood of outcasts and criminals. John quickly learns that he must be tough and ruthless in order to survive. He becomes a skilled swordsman and a respected ranger. However, he also learns that the Watch is not immune to the same political and personal conflicts that plague the rest of Westeros.

When the War of the Five Kings breaks out, John is sent to treat with the wildlings. He forms an uneasy alliance with Mance Rayder, the King-Beyond-the-Wall. However, the alliance is short-lived, and John is forced to betray the wildlings in order to save the Night's Watch.

After the war, John is elected Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. He is a strong and just leader, but he is also haunted by his past. He is in love with Ygritte, a wildling woman, but she was killed by his own men. He is also tormented by the knowledge that his father was a cruel and abusive man.

Despite his personal struggles, John Grey is a true hero. He is a brave and skilled warrior, and he is dedicated to protecting the realm from its enemies. He is a complex and flawed character, but he is also one of the most compelling characters in George R.R. Martin's epic series.

  • Ygritte: Ygritte is a wildling woman who John falls in love with. She is a fierce and independent woman, and she teaches John a great deal about the wildlings and their way of life. However, she is killed by John's own men, and her death haunts him for the rest of his life.
  • Mance Rayder: Mance Rayder is the King-Beyond-the-Wall. He is a charismatic and powerful leader, and he forms an uneasy alliance with John in order to fight against the White Walkers. However, the alliance is short-lived, and John is forced to betray the wildlings in order to save the Night's Watch.
  • Jon Snow: Jon Snow is the bastard son of Eddard Stark. He is a brave and skilled warrior, and he is one of John's closest friends. John sees a lot of himself in Jon, and he is determined to protect him from the dangers of the world.
  • Ramsay Bolton: Ramsay Bolton is a cruel and sadistic man. He is the son of Roose Bolton, and he is one of John's most dangerous enemies. John knows that Ramsay must be stopped, but he is not sure how to do it.
  • Melisandre: Melisandre is a red priestess who serves Stannis Baratheon. She is a powerful and mysterious woman, and she believes that John is the Prince That Was Promised. John is skeptical of Melisandre's claims, but he is also drawn to her power.
