Early Life and Career

Wes Craven was born on August 2, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio. His father was a minister and his mother was a homemaker. Craven was a shy and introverted child, and he often found solace in books and movies. He developed a particular fascination with horror films, and he would often sneak into theaters to watch them.

After graduating from high school, Craven attended Wheaton College in Illinois. He studied English and philosophy, but he also continued to pursue his interest in filmmaking. He made several short films during this time, and he even won an award for one of them.
